Need to launch your own kayak?

In an effort to keep people distanced, we ask that you launch personal kayaks at a nearby public launch.

FAQ

Q: Can we use our own kayaks to visit Turnip Rock or Broken Rocks?

A: Absolutely yes. We ask that you use a public launch (listed below). Also be sure to check the weather before you go. If you click on the red bar at the top of our website you’ll see if we are renting or not and what the conditions are on the lake.

Q: Where do we launch our own kayaks?

A: There are several public launch options in the area (see below for info and map).

Q: Can we take our own tandem kayaks to Turnip Rock?

A: You can, but we wouldn’t recommend it.  We do not allow any tandem kayak rentals on the Turnip Rock Trail…it’s a long journey and tandem kayaks are heavier, slower, and if the waves are big can fill up with water quickly. If you want to take a tandem kayak, we recommend the Broken Rocks trail.

Q: If we have friends/family renting from Port Austin Kayak can we launch together?

A: No, but the you launch from just across the river and can meet up with your squad in the first 5 minutes.
