About the Instructor
Stephen K. Grewe
Photography has been a life long interest. Some on my earliest memories were my father’s darkroom chemical odors and bright floodlights. My first camera was a Kodak Duaflex II with an F8 lens. It accompanied me on many adventures. Thirty years ago we bought a Canon AE-1P and my late wife took a photo class.
We both learned and did assignments; she went to class. I handled the technical details, and she had incredible compositional ability.
About twenty years ago I started taking serious photo classes. Among them were: film processing, printing, and Zone System. I also took graphite drawing and critique classes to improve my composition. I moved from a 35mm to medium and large format view cameras. Most recently I acquired a digital SLR.
I began teaching classes at the Midland Center for the Arts twelve years ago. Classes I taught include: film photography and darkroom, teen photography, printing, digital camera and beginning photography. I continue to teach at MCFTA.
I have studied with several accomplished photographers – S. Preston Jones, Bill Boley, and John Sexton.
